BREEAM/Home Quality Mark

BREEAM/Home Quality Mark

Devon & Cornwall Ecology can assist in gaining credits for your BREEAM and Home Quality Mark projects.

BREEAM

The British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the industry standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation. Although not compulsory, many developers are encouraged to use this government recognised standard to demonstrate a commitment to developing sustainable, low impact and low carbon buildings. The development is awarded credits for achieving certain targets or standards in multiple categories, including ecology, with the overall rating for the project based on the total number of credits achieved.

Home Quality Mark

BREEAM's sister scheme, the Home Quality Mark (HQM) is also an industry standard developed by the British Research Establishment. It applies to residential buildings and is designed to encourage the same sustainable, low impact designs as BREEAM. It was developed and introduced after the UK government withdrew a similar scheme, Code for Sustainable Homes, in 2015.

Ecology credits

Devon & Cornwall Ecology can assist in gaining your desired rating for BREEAM and Home Quality Mark. We can undertake the ecological surveys and produce the necessary reports and supporting documents to achieve any potential credits covered in the Ecology section of these schemes. This includes elements such as establishing the existing ecological value of the site, protection of ecological features, minimising the ecological impact of the development, enhancing the site ecology and managing the long term impact on biodiversity.

Please note, a site survey is often required for these schemes and must be undertaken before any site clearance has taken place. If you have a project in mind and would like to discuss it please do feel free to contact us.
